About the Syracuse International Film Festival

The Mission
To produce and present year-round, community wide programs of newly made, independent, international film and video for the purpose of exploring diversity and promoting a dialogue on shared issues and solutions through the universal artistic language of the cinema. Knowledge (insights) incites change.

The Commitment
At the Syracuse International Film Festival, a professional prescreening committee will prescreen entries in their entirety. Reviews of selected films and videos will be written by our panel of judges and published on the festival website, and in a print publication. These are benefits artists can truly appreciate - we know, because we're artists ourselves.

The Organization
The Syracuse International Film Festival is a 501c3 not-for profit organization. Syracuse University, and the City of Syracuse, NY and many of its businesses, foundations and arts organizations sponsor the Festival. The Festival is a member of the Arts and Culture Leadership Alliance (ACLA).

The Idea
SYRFILM is an encounter between people and cultures as well as an exciting collaboration between the City of Syracuse, the Metropolitan Development Association, the Onondaga County Cultural Resources Council, and Syracuse University. New partnerships have also been formed with LeMoyne College and Four Directions Media of the Oneida Nation. The festival will showcase all forms of expression from all genres and lengths, made by artists of all ages, countries and ideologies.

SYRFILM provides area students with a real opportunity for “scholarship in action” not only by participating in many aspects of the festival but also by serving as interns for feature film productions, spawned by the Festival, being shot in the Syracuse, New York area.
